Juneteenth History:

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Specifically, it marks the day Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, to announce General Order No. 3, which proclaimed freedom for all enslaved individuals in Texas, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery and serves as a reminder of the struggles and triumphs of African Americans throughout history.
